Brazilian football club Athlético Paranaense launched its SVOD OTT Furacão Play , which will have the team’s live matches and other exclusive content . As officially reported by the club, the platform will broadcast 30 live team matches per year, including the matches of the Brazilian Championship (Brasileirão), the Paranaense Championship and friendly matches. ‘Furacão Play’ is available both on its web version, as well as for download on iOS and Android devices.
At first, the platform is exclusively for Athlético Paranaense fans. Regarding the contents, the club officially reported that, apart from live matches, the OTT will also feature Athletico’s trainings and behind the scenes content, which will show the daily activities of the players and the club’s coaching staff. The first live match that was broadcast on Furacao Play was the one between Atlético Paranaense and Coritiba, on March 15th at the Couto Pereira Stadium, which belongs to Coritiba and is located in the city of Curitiba.
‘Athletico Paranaense has innovation in its DNA and has identified an opportunity to develop new business models aligned with what some of the most valuable companies in the world are currently doing, such as Disney, Netflix and Amazon’, said Mario Celso Petraglia, President of the Administrative Council of the club. ‘We want to strengthen this vision by adding our own platforms. Our idea is very simple: we want to have a direct relationship with our fans, learn how they behave and how they consume content from our team, including what they like and on what devices, so that we can improve their experience and develop new aligned business models with the future’, added Petraglia.
Furacão Play is the first OTT to broadcast live matches from the main competitions that Athlético Paranaense plays. Some European clubs have already launched their OTTs, such as Barcelona and Manchester City, but in terms of live broadcasts, only friendly matches are broadcast.
